Press Release: Blue Marble to Deliver Net Zero Accelerator in UK Schools
Delivering the Department for Education’s Net Zero Accelerator Pathfinder Programme
Blue Marble Environmental Partnerships Ltd is thrilled to announce its involvement in the second phase of LocatED’s Net Zero Accelerator Pathway Programme. Accordingly, this is within a consortium including Barker Associates, Lets Go Zero, Ginger Energy, School Property Matters, Place Group, and Caladen Consulting.
The Net Zero Accelerator Programme is part of the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. Chiefly, this involves working on a coordinated mission Sustainability Support for Education (SSfE), Climate Ambassadors, Let’s Go Zero and the National Education Nature Park. As the UK education sector accounts for 37% of public sector building emissions, the programme represents a pivotal step toward decarbonising the UK’s education estate. This will be required to make a proportionate contribution to the government’s 2050 net zero target.
Firstly, the purpose of the programme is to work with 50 partner schools to deliver a pathfinder project. This will then create an exemplar model for all schools. We hope to set the standard for a potential national net zero rollout that can fund and deliver programmes at scale and pace. Additionally, expanding upon the initial feasibility work completed, this 6-month programme will focus on finding opportunities to:
- optimise energy use;
- create cost savings;
- embed behavioural change;
- improve ICT, water and waste consumption;
- reduce emissions through strategic upgrades;
- help schools to adapt and become more resilient to climate events, such as flooding and heat stress.
