LCA to Calculate the Carbon Footprint of a Classic Wool Jumper Made in England
In 2022, Peregrine commissioned Blue Marble to conduct a product carbon footprint study on its Hudson Aran Jumper.
Peregrine’s Hudson Aran Jumper is unique in modern times in that its upstream supply chain is kept entirely within the UK. The product uses British Wool and is manufactured in Peregrine’s factory in Manchester. Peregrine wished to highlight this through life cycle thinking and a ‘Cradle-to-Grave’ life cycle assessment report.
Blue Marble’s work involved mapping the product system boundary and support with primary data collection from Peregrine’s suppliers and partners. As well as calculating a whole life cycle carbon footprint figure per jumper and per lifetime wear, the results of the study displayed that material transport accounts for just 2% of overall emissions and is significantly less than an alternative global supply chain.
