Life Cycle Assessment of Neuron’s N3 Dockless e-Scooter
In 2022, Neuron Mobility commissioned Blue Marble to conduct a life cycle assessment of its N3 e-scooter – purpose built to a commercial grade, specifically for the sharing economy.
Blue Marble’s work focused on calculating the product carbon footprint on a per passenger kilometre travelled basis and looked at the entire lifecycle from ‘cradle-to-grave’ (materials, manufacturing, product transport, use, maintenance and end-of-life).
Through the LCA, Neuron Mobility wished to identify improvements that had already been made in the use phase, including use of electric vehicles for battery swapping, modular design and warehouse electricity from renewable sources. To highlight the improvements, Blue Marble created a comparative scenario in which fossil fuels were used throughout the use phase in lieu of renewables. This comparison allowed Blue Marble to demonstrate a 92% reduction in carbon emissions realised by Neuron Mobility during the use phase of the N3 e-scooter’s lifetime.
‘We were happy to work with Blue Marble to better understand the carbon footprint per passenger kilometre of our devices, as well as understand the positive impacts of our sustainability work thus far. While our N3 is a wonderful solution for car replacement in cities across the world, there is more we can do to improve the emissions resulting from our manufacturing and operations – and with analysis from the LCA we will take these important steps’ – Olivia Onderdonk, Head of Sustainability and Impact at Neuron Mobility
