Lignacite - Switching to a Consultant-led EPD production process

Lignacite is a UK-based manufacturer of concrete blocks. Sustainability is core to Lignacite’s philosophy and the company has made significant commitments towards environmental performance. In 2023, Lignacite reported a 20.7% reduction in their carbon footprint.

In 2024, Lignacite commissioned Blue Marble to update its suite of sixteen Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and secure their reverification based on updated production data. Lignacite had previously used a software EPD generator tool but had faced challenges in terms of level of support offered, particularly around calculating the carbonation of the concrete.

Blue Marble was able to consider Lignacite’s position and offer a cost-efficient means to achieve reverification of sixteen EPDs without switching program operator. Blue Marble assumed responsibility for the LCA modelling including update of all production and mix design data as well as carbonation calculations in Module B1 using the methodology outlined in EN 16757:2022.

Blue Marble oversaw the reverification process and publication of the updated EPDs on behalf of Lignacite.
