Manage the environmental impacts of a product and its supply chain, with expert Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) consulting services.
What is an LCA?
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) helps you take the first step in managing the environmental impact of your products by reporting on the environmental sustainability of your product’s supply chain and life cycle. Resource consumption results in environmental impact at each stage, so we thoroughly investigate processes, emissions and data across the product’s life cycle.
Firstly, we calculate the inputs of resources consumed and outputs of environmental emissions at each life cycle stage. Then we can analyse the environmental impact of a product from cradle to grave. You can then successfully reduce a product’s impacts by directing your environmental management efforts more accurately.
Why Work with an LCA Consultant?
Whether you’re aiming to compare your product to a competitor or optimise it for sustainability (e.g. using glass or plastic packaging), working with a dedicated life cycle assessment consultant gives you the clarity to act with confidence. And if you’re later pursuing an EPD, you’re already part of the way there.
Our LCA consultants help you quantify environmental performance across every stage of the product life cycle, from raw materials and manufacturing to use phase and end of life. By working with a specialist LCA company, you gain the insight needed to make smarter design decisions, satisfy compliance requirements, and stand out to environmentally conscious specifiers and customers.
As trusted life cycle analysis consultants, we work in partnership with your internal teams to:
- Deliver practical, defensible outputs, helping you stay ahead in rapidly changing policy, investor and customer landscapes
- Identify environmental hotspots in product manufacturing
- Compare material options and optimise supply chains
- Comply with global standards such as ISO 14040/14044 and EN 15804
- Generate data suitable for use in carbon footprinting, EPDs, and sustainability reporting
Our LCA Services Include:
Screening and cradle-to-gate LCA
Ideal for manufacturers seeking rapid insight into environmental impact across early stages of the supply chain.
Full cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-cradle LCA
Holistic analysis covering the full life cycle from raw materials to disposal or reuse.
Comparative LCA
Evaluate design or material alternatives to support more sustainable product development.
Hotspot identification and impact reduction advice
Pinpoint the stages with the highest environmental impact and explore mitigation strategies.
Carbon modelling and scenario analysis
Model emissions under different production scenarios to support decarbonisation planning.
Support for EPDs and product declarations
Generate high-quality LCA datasets that meet third-party verification requirements for EPDs.
LCA for building products and construction systems
Deep expertise in aligning LCAs with the requirements of EN 15804 and major programme operators.
Compliant documentation and client-ready reporting
Outputs suitable for submission to clients, investors, regulators or programme operators.
Why Choose Blue Marble?

Traditional Consultancy | Licensed Software | |
| Fees | Transparent, fair pricing tailored to project scope | Often very high, with significant overheads | Licence costs can be expensive, plus hidden add-ons |
| Flexibility | No long-term commitments, services scaled to your needs | Rigid and process-heavy | Requires ongoing licence arrangements |
| Time & Responsiveness | Agile and responsive with clear timelines | Slow to respond and deliver | Dependent on your own internal resources |
| Client Involvement | We manage the project end-to-end, minimising client workload | Clients often left managing coordination | Requires significant internal time and training |
| Expert Insight | Specialist knowledge in EPDs, LCAs and carbon reporting | May lack sector-specific expertise | Limited to what the software outputs |
| Data Handling | Ability to create private datasets for manufacturers | Not always flexible | Standardised, no option for bespoke datasets |
| Support | Face-to-face visits, ongoing advice, practical guidance | Typically remote and formal | Technical support only, often generic |
| Future Proofing | Can bridge the gap to software platforms when clients are ready | No transition support | Lock-in to a single platform |

“We’d highly recommend Blue Marble for any sustainability-related work in the future”
Daniel Maudsley, Commercial Director at Econix
“Blue Marble served us in a procedural yet accessible way. The step-by-step approach with some technically substantive discussions ensured that the EPD was created efficiently.”
Ben Visser, Project Leader at Rock Solid
“With the services and support from Blue Marble, they have helped us [reduce the environmental impact of our products].”

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will...
- Help you meet sustainability regulations.
- Highlight the environmental impact of a product or process over its full life cycle, display hotspots and allow you to direct carbon reduction efforts.
- Enable you to report on the environmental performance of products and processes with confidence.
- Compare your products and processes with alternatives.
Frequently Asked Questions about LCAs
- How much does a Life Cycle Assessment cost?
-
Firstly, the cost depends on the scope and complexity of any LCA project. It’s relatively affordable to complete simple, streamlined LCAs, whereas complex comparative LCAs take more time and will incur more cost. But we can offer solutions to meet most clients’ requirements.
- How long does and LCA take?
-
Typically, from kick-off to completion, an LCA project will take between three-to-six months. For the most part, gathering the primary data on the products and processes being studied takes the majority of this time. LCA software is then used to model the LCA, and, finally the LCA report is prepared.
- Why should I prepare an LCA?
-
There are various reasons to produce an LCA. Occasionally it is because of external drivers, such as the need to meet compliance and regulations, or a customer requirement. More often though, LCA answers questions related to internal decision making, for example which packaging to use, or to answer ‘what-if’ scenarios (e.g. what if Scenario A was replaced with Scenario B) etc.
