Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

Speak to us

Calculate your product carbon footprint, including greenhouse gas emissions.

Production Line

A product carbon footprint study is a form of life cycle assessment which calculates the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of your product or range of products. By measuring the carbon footprint of a product we can then assess how much a product affects climate change. This enables manufacturers to start to take action to reduce emissions, and take action towards reducing the rate of climate change, too.

A Product Carbon Footprint will...

  1. Accurately calculate Scope 3 impacts by understanding the indirect emissions from product-related activities throughout the supply chain.
  2. Demonstrate transparency for your customers, because you understand the supply-chain environmental impacts associated with products being brought onto the market.
  3. Highlight the carbon hotspots associated with a product, chiefly these may lie in transportation, or packaging, or manufacture. Occasionally the greatest impacts arise in unexpected areas. Understanding hotspots allows reduction efforts to be more focused and avoid shifting burdens between life cycle stages.
  4. Finally, by establishing a baseline carbon footprint, organisations and businesses can then set meaningful reduction targets and share them in public initiatives like the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

Frequently Asked Questions about Product Carbon Footprint

How much does a product carbon footprint study cost?

Costs vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project. For example, a single product PCF can usually be completed relatively affordably. Accordingly, a carbon footprint study on a large range of products or stock keeping units may take more time and may cost more.

Will a product carbon footprint help me meet my compliance obligations?

By working with a life cycle assessment consultant like Blue Marble, we will take the time to understand your specific requirements in order to ensure our solution addresses your particular requirement.
