Event Case Study: Zebu Digital’s Carbon Neutrality Declaration for the 2022 Live Event
Introduction: Zebu Digital, a full-service Web3 marketing agency, hosted the Zebu Digital Live Event in London in 2022. The company recognized the importance of addressing its environmental impact and, in compliance with the WRI Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Reporting and Accounting Standard, sought to assess and report its emissions, aiming to include Scope 1, Scope 2, and select Scope 3 emissions over which it had influence and measurable data.
Emissions Assessment: To conduct this assessment, Zebu Digital engaged Blue Marble, a sustainability consulting firm. The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory for the event was prepared in line with PAS2060 and GHG Protocol guidelines, utilizing emissions factors from the UK Government Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs.
The results of the assessment revealed:
- Scope 1 emissions: 0 tonnes CO2e
- Scope 2 emissions: 0.11 tonnes CO2e, primarily from energy use in Zebu offices
- Scope 3 emissions: 6.4 tonnes CO2e, with the largest contributor being business travel using public transport The total emissions for the subject, Zebu Digital Live Event 2022, were 6.53 tonnes CO2e.
Offsetting Program: In response to its emissions assessment, Zebu Digital initiated an offsetting program to achieve carbon neutrality. The company opted for VERRA certified offsets, amounting to 7 tonnes CO2e. This decision aligns with best practices in sustainability reporting and demonstrates a commitment to addressing environmental impacts effectively.
Achievement of Carbon Neutrality: The declaration of carbon neutrality for the Zebu Digital Live Event 2022 was officially certified by Blue Marble in December 2022. The evaluation and provision of data necessary for this declaration were led by Marina Sanchez, an individual within the organization responsible for overseeing the emissions assessment process.
Conclusion: Zebu Digital’s commitment to sustainability is evident through its comprehensive assessment of emissions associated with the 2022 Live Event and the subsequent offsetting program. The decision to include Scope 3 emissions highlights a proactive approach to reducing the company’s overall carbon footprint.
By achieving carbon neutrality for the event, Zebu Digital not only meets regulatory and reporting standards but also demonstrates its dedication to reducing its environmental impact. This case study serves as an example of how companies in the Web3 industry can take meaningful steps towards sustainability while promoting their brands and values at high-profile events like the Zebu Digital Live Event.
