Bio-Bin® – Product Carbon Footprint study for a product with strong environmental credentials.
Econix produce the Bio-Bin® – an innovative, paper-based clinical waste container.
In 2024, Econix commissioned Blue Marble to conduct a product carbon footprint study on their 5 litre, 6 Litre pipette and 30 litre Bio-Bins®.
The typical business-as-usual scenario for disposal of clinical waste involves use and incineration of virgin plastic containers – with considerable environmental impact from a production and end-of-life standpoint. Bio-Bins®, on the other hand, are made from 96% paper and provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic-based containers.
It was important to Econix that they could verify the benefits of their Bio-Bins® with a product carbon footprint study which considered the cradle-to-gate and end-of-life impacts of the two Bio-Bin® products.
Blue Marble provided a cost-effective solution with a simple to understand product carbon footprint report which analysed the global warming potential (carbon footprint) of the three Bio-Bins® across their life cycles; the study was conducted in accordance with ISO 14067.
‘Blue Marble’s deep expertise and commitment to accuracy made our product carbon footprint journey really smooth. Right from the beginning, their team showcased a deep understanding of the importance of confirming the product’s environmental credentials and showcased an incredible level of attention to detail.
Their efficiency and precision not only validated our commitment to sustainability but further confirmed our position as leaders in our field. We’d highly recommend Blue Marble for any sustainability-related work in the future, and we hope to continue working with the fantastic team they have on other ESG projects.’
